This book is a light filled summary of the biblical 'job description' for elders in the church. The base assumption is that an elder is a pastor-teacher, that is, an under shepherd of Jesus. It assumes some elders are paid by the church, but most are not. It is directly applicable in a presbyterian or congregational setting/5().

Jereamie Rinne's book is a great concise book on church elders. It's worth reading this with those who elder with you or who you are raising up to be elders. Several chapters are excellent/5. In this concise and lucid church elder book, Church Elders, Jeramie Rinne has done both. Written to the new elder who asks the question after installation, “Now what?” it serves to outline basics of pastoral ministry.

I mentioned Rinne’s writing style. It is clear and memorable. For example, to make his point that the elders need to know the sheep he has a chapter titled, “Smell like Sheep.”.
